Is It Important for Model Builders to Have This Kind of Experience?

The model builder has to have a very deep relationship with people who collected that data, right? As a satistician, i am a translator. I take someone else's story of how the data was collected and tried to translate it into a mathematical language. And having the experience of going in and collecting some of the data, seeing it first hand, that just makes the probability that you mistranslate something all the smaller,. So the more experience you can have with it, the more integrated you are, the better that process will be.
