Chest X-Rays Can Help Diagnosis of Aspirated Pathogens
There's some data that a chest CT can help refine the diagnosis for radiographically equivocal cases on chest x-ray. Adelectasis is really just collapsed alone. So it's more dense than pneumonia where the airspace is still actually kind of centered open by pus. And if you have a whole bunch of pus filling up the alveolar space, that kind of extends right to almost like the fence between neighboring houses of the limit of the lobe itself. If you see either of those two things, those are pretty specific for VAP.
