The Role of Scripture in Celtic Christianity

Most monks would have learned at least the Psalms and the New Testament by heart many of them learned the whole Bible by heart someone like me that is just astonishing thought. The quality of artwork around the scriptures in the books are a short testament to the respect they had for them but bear in mind the majority of people couldn't read or understand Latin.
