The Importance of Personal Responsibility in Politics

There has to be some element of personal responsibility for the way people behave. Not everybody that faces tough socioeconomic circumstances ends up committing crime. You can't take away that personal responsibility, but it would also be a particularly obtuse conservative who said there is no correlation at all and that these things don't matter. The truth is voters, I think, want a balance between those two solutions.
