The marquis de sade was about to take all of those views and translate them into a novel, which would become one of the most notorious texts in western literature. His magnum opis entitled the 120 days of sodom. And he would write it in an environment even more demoralizing than his current abode, at the prison of vincent. He had spent days carefully glueing pieces of paper together, about five inches wide each, until he had created a single blank scroll over forty nine feet long. This was the canvas on which he would write his masterpiece.
