The Factional Balance of the Diet in Japan

Japan's diet has two houses, the upper house of councillors and the lower house of representatives. A faction in both houses is a measure of its strength in the party. Of these, the abe faction had over 90 members, about a quarter of the factionally affiliated l d p diet members. About 70 were unaffiliated with any faction, having one asi dependence on political dynasties to get elected.
