The Second Indictment for Donald Trump
This is the first time a former president has been charged with federal crimes. The investigation began in 2021 as the National Archives were trying to recover what they thought were probably government records from Trump's presidency that they believed he took with him to Florida. In June of last year, just about a year ago, a federal prosecutor and FBI agents show up at Mar-a-Lago to retrieve what they are told is all the classified documents Trump's lawyers could find. So they get those documents, but almost immediately after getting those documents, the FBI begins gathering evidence that suggests that in fact Trump has not turned everything over. And so that sets in motion a series of events, which gets the FBI involved
