How to Get a Warning Before an Earthquake Starts
With enough stations getting off the P wave, we can get some warning before shaking gets anywhere. The practical things you can be doing, of course, are done with automatic systems. But as an individual, the other thing is, you know, does the message tell you what you're expected shaking is? And one thing they do say, especially if it's going to be strong shaking, just a few seconds extra time to do drop and cover can be really helpful.
