Introduction
It's 75 years this week since an Iron Bevan created what is arguably the UK's most fondly loved institution. But faced with strikes, a staffing crisis and increasing calls for big reforms, this doesn't feel like the happiest of birthdays. Unless we act now for the long term, the challenges we face will only get worse. So on its 75th anniversary is the NHS in need of another watershed moment as big as its foundation in 1948?
