Beacon was a tool that would collect data from external web sits, sights that were not facebook and send that data back to facebook. Facebook didn't alert users to this programme nor did it allow people the chance to op out of the service. After users brought a class action lawsuit against facebook, the company shut down beacon in two thousand nine. And that doesn't mean facebook said good bye to target ed ads. Far from it.
