Edward Gardner asked Elsie's parents if Arthur Conan Doyle could go public with the photographs. The girls are increasingly coming under pressure to comply and do what them, Gardner and Conan Doyle are asking them to do. One of the controversial things about the first photo was that Francis was looking at the camera, not at the four fairies. People thought this didn't make sense.

In the summer of 1917, 16-year-old Elsie Wright took a photograph of her 9-year-old cousin, Frances Griffiths. It was the first photograph she’d ever taken — and it became the source of a mystery that lasted for most of the 20th century.
