land is trying to in a sense, disturb the easy split between the superstructure and the base. He's re defining what actually constitutes the base here, including elements of what was once reserved for the superstructure, that is, like racism. Now he adds to all this a patriarchal dynamic, what he calls a kind of patrilennial system that prohibits a kind of er er is very incestual,. In that it maintains a kind of a recognition within itself. So by virtue of that, it kind of galvanizes and freezes the other.
