By 1920, more than half the teachers and administrators in New York public schools were Jewish. The period from World War I up to about 1955 is remembered by everyone as the golden age of the New York City public school system. That golden age came to an end by 1960 when another huge wave of migrants, blacks from the south and Puerto Ricans flooded into the system once again.
