The English Word for Blessing

The English word for blessing comes from an Anglo-Saxon word, blethan, which means to anoint or consecrate with blood. It's not unrelated to the meaning that more profound, the deepest profound Christian meaning of this term. To bless is an act of praise, where he prays God or his holy ones for their great works. Then there is blessing as a prayer which invokes or prays for the good of someone.
