The Open Charge Point Protocol and the Potential for Distributed Denial of Service Attacks
In February 2023, researchers discovered two vulnerabilities in the open charge point protocol or OCPP that could be used in a distributed denial of service attack. Almost every charger that they examined was running an outdated version of Linux or had unnecessary services running and this allowed many services to actually run as root. If EV cars in the future are used as an energy distribution infrastructure, they could disable the energy grid by a malicious open source attack.
