Sodium replacement is really about balancing fluid replacement, so it's having those two things in sync that seems to be important. You can't plan the sodium replacement based on a sweat sodium test unless you know what you're doing with your fluid replacement. It's the mismatch between those two that causes the problem rather than a deficit in one or the other per se as far as sodium is concerned. If you have large sweat losses in the four to five liter range, that's a lot. That's a couple of hours, three hours worth of activity for normal people, normal circumstance.
