The Yamanaka Factors
The genetics are not generally changing as you age and epigenetics are that layer on top of the genome. So there are specific chemical marks either on histones which control DNA or the DNA methylation itself. And these marks, these chemical marks can be put on or taken off or all off or become dysregulated over time. Whereas your genetics for the most part unless you're doing CRISPR editing, that sort of thing are pretty much permanent. It's much easier to interact at the epigenetic level to change what is already changing throughout our lifetime. The Yamanaka factors were the first minimal set of genes that were able to take adult cells and turn them into stem cells.
