How Do You Get These Beetles?
Beetles have evolved to look like army ant colonies. They groom the ants, clean them and even walk on top of them. The beetles are not producing any of their own caticular permones. So this is one of the things we're studying in my lab. We've also looked at the a carbon 13 isotopic signature of cuticular hydrocarbons that tells you for definite if they're coming from the same source.
