The dirty pipe vulnerability is the latest vulnerability that affects Linux kernels, version 5.8 and newer. It could potentially allow an attacker or an unprivileged user to elevate their privileges by modifying arbitrary read only files like Etsy password file on a Linux system. The vulnerability was discovered by Max Kellerman in April 2021 but wasn't made public until March 2022.
