The Essence of Everything Is Not Rationality
Schopenhauer suggests that the essence of everything er is, and i think probably e the nearest we can get to this is the idea that everything is in some way striving or trying or tending in a direction. The difficulty with this notion is that for most, for the most part, this is a blind striving. So nature is not conscious. It doesn't have desires in the literal sense that human beings with their conscious minds do. But he sees all this as a way of striving, a way of the will trying to keep itself alive.
