Lessons for Contemporary Readers to Apply to Our Own Tumultuous Times

A lot of historians have a kind of somber cast i mean look we can't do anything about the very crummy and you know depressing aspects of american history. One lesson of this book is first of all how hard it is when things don't work out in the most beautiful way that they're not all of the things that we would want to see. A lot of the people that i write about pushed for greater democracy greater racial equality and didn't live to see the good outcomes that eventually came along. I think one of the key things is recognizing that when you get some of what you want you have to celebrate that even if it's not all ofwhat you want and keep trying
