And this is like, probably actually solved in the literature. I just don't know it is. Was it that lower fertility allowed for lower mortality because of the malthusian trap? Or was it that lower mortality allowed for lower fertility because you didn't have to force women to spend so much of their child bearing age in active child bearing?"
