The Mission Does Not Make Up for a Lack of Salary

Hiring is extremely difficult and the mission does not make up for everything. We're talking by orders of magnitude to what people can be paid in the private industry. My tagline here is always that, if you're not getting equity, as you would at a Silicon Valley firm, your equity is coming in terms of the mission but it doesn't make up for salary.
