The Process of Manipulation in Elections
A highbred regime undermines the democratic part of the process by usurping power or creatinga in playing field. The kremlin has been very creative about using bureaucratic processes to insure that no one who can challenge the regime can actually run for office. And so all these practices are still present in russia, but they've grown in importance and are even more blatant. So why elections? Well, it's well known that i in contempa especially in contemporary authoritarian machines, that ruling by coercion alone is very costly.
