The Life of Platonicus

Platonicus was from Egypt and came to Alexandria in search of a teacher. There he met Ammonius Saccas, about whom we unfortunately know very little. Even Platonicus' decision to join a military expedition led by the Emperor Gordian is explained as stemming from his desire to travel east. Whether he learned anything there that actually influenced his thought is an interesting question.
