The Importance of APIs in Drupal
API is important from a Drupal perspective, even if you aren't going headless. You only want to expose the data you think someone's going to need so it's well structured and you never change it. Turn on JSON API from day one, even if it's not publicly available just to review as you build out content types of your data structures.
