The two sides were ready to have it out. Lycinius took up a strong position at adrianople on the east side of the hebrus river, now the mariza river in bulgaria. Constantine advanced to meet him and took up his own strong position on the west side of the river. For days, neither commander was willing to make a move. But constantine finally got sick of the staring contest and devised a plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel.
