I think the rise of self publishing a lot of first time authors out there, and they don't really know what they want right. Most of the time your readers are not going to care if he cut his hair in this scene or because I have a lot of authors that tell me that like if I show them a cover. Some some people take it to the extreme and I think it is very very psychological yet, because they just want to get it right.
