The Last 50,000 Years Is Not a Lot of Time

Every part of a plant that could land in the asphalt is preserved. We have some very large wood specimens, some tree trunks that are up to 10 feet long and probably about one and a half feet in diameter. The plants that we find in the tarpids have living species growing in California in most cases today. It's a really powerful tool to understand how change happens. So what plants are on the landscape and at what times and then how those change through the 50,000 years that we have here.
