The UK is disappointed with the Arab League's decision to admit Bashar al-Assad back into the fold. The United States has also insisted that it still wants political transition according to the UN peace process to happen and sanctions imposed by the US on the Assad regime are not going to be lifted. Unfortunately, when it comes to politics, we are now in a world in which pragmatism rules rather than values,. Many members of the Arab League are authoritarian regimes. They are not democracies so this issue of accountability is not absolute in this kind of context.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad became a regional pariah after brutal crackdowns on his own citizens. But on Friday, the most powerful men in the Middle East welcomed him back into the Arab League.
