Vagueness is important to us in just about every area of our life. We're all familiar with the way politicians can wriggle out of promises by putting them in vague language. And problems of vagueness arise whenever we have to do with applying laws and rules or instructions. For example, if you're trying to apply the rule that you shouldn't harm your neighbors, just think of the question of what degree of loudness of music constitutes harming your neighbors.
