The Skepticalness of the 50s
Skepticism is where we dismiss anything that we can't make sense of in a way that we don't have a relationship with the mystery, so to speak. An example for me of how skeptical the 50s was is I remember when I was a Cambridge just talked by a hypnotist. He insisted that these people were pretending to be hypnotized, it wasn't real. And he made the person vanish and reappear, and the man had no reaction whatsoever. It also has implications for the virtual reality idea and whether we can really trust what we see under certain circumstances.
