The History of the Hebrew Word in English
The name of the city in our English translations is translated as Babel. That Hebrew word never appears throughout the rest of the Old Testament. Everywhere else it's translated as Babylon because that's what the word means. When Babylon much later is going to come take out the Israelites, it's called Babel.
