Poland had signed the maltop ribbetrout pact, which divided northern and eastern europe into spheres of influence should a war kick off. As polish forces waited for promised french and british support that never came, the soviets invaded using the excuse that the polish government was virtually defeated and therefore unable to govern itself. Of course, this is all bolshit, as the soviet invasion had actully been prepaing for this invasion since the nates had started theirs a few months earlier.
