I Was, Was, Were, You All Were and They Were

The modern pas tense forms, was and were came from a verb called weson. But the anglo saxons always used this particular verb for past tense. And in fact, these verb forms have changed very little over the past thousand years. In old english, i was, was, ech was, you were, was tho wear he was. Was hawas we were. Was ye wearin and they were? Was he a wearin. A phrase like powers that are still considered standard usage to day is an old phrase which preserves that old usage.
