Why Do You Start at Zero Base Indexes?

In almost every program in language, you start counting at zero. In injava script, this is the weirdest example i could find,. But if i go into my developer console and do like, new date dot, get month, what value does it return? It returns five. They count the months ofthe year. January is obviously zero, then february is one, and li noo. I feel ike they're just copyed because, hey, the sea guy is wearing polcadots. We should wear polcadot too.
