Stephanie Coontz: I have so much empathy for writers who are trying to carve a space for themselves and their readers in the world today. She says building your platform is an act of hospitality it's like hosting a dinner party you want to have a conversation that's your book but people still have to come to your table to enjoy the meal. "The invitation is how can I creatively make a path that is true to me and what I'm trying to do," she said.
