Food helps set up the internal logic of the world and its characters, but it's also just a huge part of bringing that world to life. Rand told us about a scene in an early version of her book, up draft. Cows cannot climb towers, nor ken goats, not this high, and nobody wants to milk a goose - so we have to take that out. You can almost define a world by what's available and what isn't; you can't have cows, but you cant have dwarf apple trees growing in pots.
