A Black Women Poet's Review - The Hill We Climb
When i was in high school and had been writing poetry for several years, there was an opportunity to apply to be the inaugural youth poet laureate of los angeles. I wanted to add some more youth and warmth and vibrancy by using my hands, by wearing bright colors, by a showing up with apro braids. And so i love the tradition i was existing in, and i also wanted to expand it at the same time.
