Foreign minister penny wong is particularly alert to what's at stake. She said polose's visit asa matter for the united states, and she certainly didn't indorse it. The region is concerned about escalition, but the regen is concerned about the risk of conflict. We're caught between our biggest trading partner and our biggest ally. That puts a very expensive price tag on australia's national interest in all of this. It definitely demands mature and nuance diplomacy.
