The Importance of Black Popular Music in South Korea
In the 80s, protests were so common in Seoul that my mom would often pass by them on her way to Itoan. One day she and a friend accidentally got caught in one of the protests. The scene quickly devolved into chaos as law enforcement unleashed tear gas into the crowd. My mom and her friend ran off choking, coughing tears and snot running down their faces. And after my mom got herself together, she got on a bus and took a different route into Itoan.
