The Origins of Protocorrenthe and Vase Painting
The Cheeky Vase shows hoplite warriors engaging in the phalanx against each other for the first time. Protocorrenthe and black figure was enormously popular, but as often happens, success led to mass production of inferior vases. The amphora and crater continued to be the most important attic shapes; smaller shapes were actually imported from corn. A huge amphora from around 650 BC found it a lusus depicts the gorgons in pursuit of Perseus in the main body.
