The english husgarl warriors were known to be so effective that even harada had heard of them. His advisers warned him specifically of their skill and ferocity, telling him that just one hussgarl was equal to multiple norse warriors in battle. After days upon days of hard riding, the english were now only seven miles from stamford bridge and battle a meanwhile, things were a bit of a shot show. Some of the english had assembled at the bridge as promised, and they had brought with them their taxes, tributes and hostages. There are some reports that suggest there were no fewer than 500 hostages seized.
