The British Museum brings them lower so you can actually see them. They're arrayed in a large rectangle, somewhat akin to how they may have been mounted on the as a freeze or the relief part of it at least around the top of the Parthenon. There were many people who had doubts about the existence of God or the value of religious life just like today.
