I should have had a real fundamental understanding of how quickly the carpet can be pulled out from under you. So that assemblage of jobs is really just a layer of protection against the cruelty of the world. I find it hard to believe you wouldn't find work immediately as a teacher somewhere. It's shocking how quickly people fall, i'm always thinking about that. On the other hand, standing on the edge does cause you to be relentless. People have told me that there's a song in hamilton where they talk about hamilton writing like his he's at the end of his life. He writes as if, you know writing is going to end, and he has to write relentlessly
