The Importance of Safety in Judo
When you try and perform an action that doesn't take into consideration the movement of the other person, then you are performing a movement that is entirely different from the real movement. So it tends to find that there'll be players that have really aesthetic judo. It looks really, really pretty when they're in a club with a player that's a good partner. But the second somebody tries to fight back, they just look lost. Whereas a lot of the people who are incredibly brutally effective judo players, if you asked them to perform a cat, would just look comical. "It looked like elephants doing ballet, you know"
