Artemis has influenced structure of her all living things. She supplanted Selene as the goddess of the moon, a celestial body related to a woman's menstrual cycle. Her interest in the death-dealing potential of the hunter came to be transferred to the warrior on the battlefield. In societies where hunting was reduced mainly to an aristocratic pastime, the powerful deities of the hunt were not forgotten.
