Auro, Narbon and increasingly our say, all continued operating as prosperous centers of trade. Even as the trade and bulk goods that had characterized the Roman economy disappeared from Britain and northern Gaul, southern Gaul kept right on shugging. The scale was smaller and the cities themselves shrank a bit, but this region remained urban and it remained wealthy. We'll call him Paulus, and say he was born around 440 or so in the city of Auro.
