Bioluminescence Can Be Used for Camouflage

Some sea creatures use bioluminescence for other stuff, like finding mates. A really good example of this is the lanternfish. Male and female lanternfish have glowing blue green lights all along the sides of their bodies in different patterns. Scientists think the different light patterns might help lanternfishes find a mate of the same species in the darkness.
