The Disentangling of Hierarchies
There's a lot of labor legislation after the plague that's trying to control wage workers and people who wander around the countryside looking for work. And I think that is clearly an effort to enforce hierarchies that have been eroded by the Black Death. Like the way that the 1381 peasants rebellion was put down in the localities with just incredible violence, right? A hundred years later, if you're in 1481 instead of 1381, serfdom is really old news. So that's actually an example where a form of inequality does disappear.
